The Skinny of It

Growing up in Ward 7’s Deanwood neighborhood of Washington, D.C., Tarinna Olley came from very humble beginnings. Though her family faced financial challenges, her parents’ unwavering faith and resilience ensured she never went without. Despite the harsh realities of gun violence and drugs that plagued her community, Tarinna was determined to dream bigger than her surroundings. Her mother often remarked, “You think you’re Gloria Vanderbilt” recognizing Tarinna’s aspiration for more than what her neighborhood could offer. She defied norms, daring to be different from her peers. An insatiable drive burned within her to craft a life greater than what seemed possible in Deanwood. Fueled by unrelenting ambition and a refusal to be defined by circumstances, Tarinna transformed her “bigger than life” dreams into reality through sheer perseverance. Her story is a testament to the power of an unshakable mindset fortified by the love of a supportive family.

Surely, There is More to Be Told…

In the poignant words of Langston Hughes, “life has been no crystal stair” for Tarinna Olley. For years, she navigated an uncertain path, aloof and unsure of her true self. Yet through life’s trials and tribulations, she emerged emboldened, now walking in steadfast purpose – a purpose illuminated by the divine wisdom of who God created her to be. Today, Tarinna understands that even amidst pain, there resides profound purpose. She stands unapologetically herself, embracing her authentic identity with courage and grace. At her core, she is a devoted wife and mother to some truly awesome sons who fill her life with joy and inspiration. Tarinna’s journey has been one of self-discovery, fortified by an unwavering faith that has guided her through life’s complexities. Her story reminds us that within every challenge lies the opportunity for growth, transformation, and a deeper understanding of one’s place in this world. Hers is a tale of resilience, love, and the unbreakable bonds that define the human spirit.

The Technical Stuff…

Tarinna Olley is a multi-talented force, gifted in myriad disciplines. She wears many hats as a counselor, trainer, clergy member, author, professor, international speaker, and poet. Her true passion, however, lies in counseling and serving her community through grassroots organizations – something she has done since her teenage years. With over two decades of experience in government social services, as a substance abuse counselor, Tarinna is a global leader and clinician whose impact transcends borders. She has a prowess in connecting with individuals and groups due to her authenticity and relatability. 

One of her most rewarding experiences was speaking at the HIVE Africa Global Leaders Program in Abuja, Nigeria, further igniting her zeal for purpose and destiny. Tarinna’s educational journey began at Temple University in Philadelphia, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation. She then pursued a Masters of Education in Guidance Counseling from Howard University. Her leadership prowess was honed through the HIVE Global Leaders Program at Harvard University, and she holds a Certificate of Higher Education from Harvard’s Derek Bok Center for Teaching. Currently, Tarinna serves as an Adjunct Professor at Trinity Washington University in Washington, D.C. Her expertise has been showcased across various publication and media outlets, including Harvard Human Rights Review, Thrive Global Publication, Pillow Talk with Angela Stribling, The Daily Drum with Harold Fisher, and Joe’s Place on WHUR 96.3FM. Tarinna has also been an invited guest on HUR Voices SiriusXM Radio, TalkAm based in Abuja, Nigeria, and Ruach Radio in London. Embodying a multifaceted tapestry of talents and experiences, Tarinna Olley is a beacon of inspiration, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to empowering communities worldwide.
